NURSERY AIMS

Nursery Aims

At Musselburgh Private Nursery, we have developed a Froebel approach to play and learning. Froebel believed that all children have different learning styles and he promoted a holistic approach which is child-centred and encourages parent involvement. We believe in these values.

Our Environment

The nursery has been designed to create a calm and natural environment. The interior has cream walls with natural colour textiles, such as rugs and cushions. Plants are positioned throughout the nursery to promote bringing outdoors indoors with the aim to encourage children’s learning of caring for living things.

Learning Through Play

We believe in learning through play, because play promotes learning and it is fun! It helps children to understand his or her own abilities, builds confidence and self esteem. Here are just a few examples of what children learn through play:

Sand and Water can be an early introduction to science and maths e.g learning that water is fluid and it can be measured in to different sized containers

Playing with dough, drawing and painting pictures, dressing up and playing with dolls can encourage creativity, imagination and expression of feelings

Building blocks, jigsaws and shapes sorters can help with recognising different shapes, putting things in order and developing logic.

Free Flow Play

The rooms are organised to promote Free Flow Play. This allows the children to move freely around which encourages choice and independence. They can choose whether to play indoors or outdoors, messy play, role play or quiet play. Each room will carry out focused learning activities twice per day and story sessions throughout the day. Children are invited into these activities, however, are free to choose whether they join in.
